Ferguson Is the New Frontier

You love the holidays, but in years past you've been bored by all of the played-out seasonal celebrations. You understand that Santa's contract requires him to be involved in nearly every event, but couldn't party planners use their imaginations for once? Well, do we have a treat for you! Head out to Ferguson Citywalk (22 South Florissant Road, Ferguson) for the Northern Lights Holiday Festival. During this hoedown — that's right, there's a Western theme — you can ride a mechanical bull, scavenge through bales of hay for prizes, have your pic taken with Santa (remember the contract stipulation) and chow down on a chuck-wagon chili dinner. Plus, the first 200 li'l cowpokes to arrive receive a free cowboy hat! Yee-haw! Plenty of other activities take place during this free fest (which runs from 2 to 7 p.m.), such as square-dancing (2:30 p.m.), an electric-light parade (5 p.m.) and a frozen-fruitcake shot-put contest. For more information about this unusual kickoff to the holidays — good job, Ferguson! — visit www.fergusoncitywalk.com or call 314-324-4298.
