Flat Rates on Flat Works

Week in and week out, the good folks at Firecracker Press make this city a prettier, funkier place with one piece of heavy-weight paper stock at a time. Eric Woods and his staff print cards, posters and other pulpy ephemera using the old-fashioned letterpress techniques, giving each piece a tactile character that is about 1,000 times more satisfying than what is spit out of some soulless laser-jet printer. This Saturday, Firecracker is hosting its El Cheapo Poster Sale, which, if you failed Spanish class, translates as a great chance to stock up on colorful, whimsical and grotesque art at recession-friendly prices. The print shop has made posters in celebration of everything from Forest Park to local bands to bacon, so there’s certainly something in stock to brighten your walls. The sale takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., though early birds can pay $5 for first-pickings at 10 a.m. Firecracker Press is located at 2838 Cherokee Street; for more information, call 314-776-7271 or visit
