Of all of the animals, alpacas probably have the most gentle souls and the sweetest eyes, but we like to imagine that Cadbury, the alpaca you see pictured, has a bit of a mischievous side to him. After all, there has to be a trickster in every group. Cadbury most likely plays pranks on his fellow farmmates and tells all sorts of silly knock-knock jokes when the humans aren’t around. Just look at that face! Precious! Silly! The humans at Cadbury’s home, Shady Creek Farm, say that Cadbury is polite — of course he is to the people who feed him! Oh, Cadbury, we’re looking forward to seeing you and 600 other alpacas this weekend at the Midwest Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association’s MOPACA Invitational Alpaca Show at the National Equestrian Center (6880 Lake St. Louis Boulevard, Lake St. Louis). Alpaca breeders from all over the country bring their fluffy lot, and the public is invited to visit with the endearing animals, check out the vendors’ products (such as alpaca clothing — for humans, not the ‘pacas — and alpaca artwork), and hug each and every alpaca (we made that last part up). The show is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday (March 24 and 25), and admission is free. For more information visit www.mopaca.org/show.shtml.
