Foundry Field Recordings

8 p.m. Friday, September 21. The Bluebird, 2706 Olive Street.

Foundry Field Recordings' new release, Fallout Stations, does what any solid EP should do: It includes an alternate but equally compelling version of the strongest song ("Broken Strings") from the band's recent full-length, Prompts/Miscues. But the five-song set also does justice to an ambitious cover (the early Pixies gem "Caribou") and showcases the quartet's ability to juxtapose infectious pop numbers with mood pieces sprinkled with hand-recorded found sounds. More important, after several years of releasing material as a collective under different monikers, the Columbia, Missouri, band has finally found a unique identity. Fans catching the band's live show can expect to leave in a shoe-ward-staring trance, anticipating what the next full-length release might hold in store.
