Fruit of Their Labels

Who doesn't secretly buy wine for the label art? Ever kept a bottle around just to admire that pretty label long after you've finished enjoying the vino itself? At Brennan's "Wine by Design" night, you can check out 100 wine labels by local artists — without the associated pitfalls (financial and otherwise) of "admiring," say, 100 bottles of wine.

"Wine by Design" is a benefit for the AIDS Foundation of St. Louis and also the grand opening of the Maryland House, an upstairs addition to Brennan's wine bar in the Central West End (4659 Maryland Avenue; 314-361-9444). A suggested $10 donation for admission gets you introduced to Big Nose Cabernet, a cool wine in search of a good label — that's where the artists come in. Play pin-the-label-on-the-wine, and see if you select the same winning design as the judges did. The benefit lasts from 7 to 11 p.m., and a silent auction and a DJ spin round out the night.
