This pairing of the New Orleans quintet Galactic and the San Diego saxophonist/vocalist Karl Denson, both of whom have built substantial followings without radio airplay or mainstream media exposure of any sort, brings a double dose of funk to jam band enthusiasts. Galactic's brand new album, Ya-Ka-May features collaborations with R&B, funk and jazz musicians from its hometown and brings the band closer to its Crescent City roots after its last release, the hip-hop-influenced From the Corner to the Block. Denson's been keeping busy, too, touring with the reformed Greyboy Allstars as well as with his own Tiny Universe. As an added treat for fans, after playing separate sets, the two groups plan to join forces for a few songs to close out the concert.
