Get Felt Up

While a dozen lumps of felt fashioned into anthropomorphic monsters who sing helpful songs about life may sound like a kids' play, the Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q is strictly for the older set. The show resembles a certain public-television kids' program that features puppets living on a street that shall remain nameless, but comparisons must legally stop there. This colorful cast dives into such hairy topics as racism, sexual identity and Internet pornography, teaching valuable lessons about real life in the big city — and the play even features a special guest star in the person of Gary Coleman (not actually Gary Coleman). Hilarious and engaging, Avenue Q opens at 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, at the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; or 314-534-1111) and continues through Sunday, February 24 (no performances on Monday). Tickets cost $22 to $60.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 12. Continues through Feb. 24, 2008
