Just how much do we adore Schlafly events? Here’s how much: The beloved local brewery could sponsor a benefit for lactose-intolerant clowns, thus tapping into our two biggest fears (cheese-free living, face-painted adults), and we’d still go. Yeah, that’s right. Fortunately, Schlafly only hosts thoroughly kickass parties, and the fourth annual Art Outside is no exception. This two-day event obliterates the notion that juried art fairs are snooty and unapproachable. Instead, you get to enjoy your local art along with a hearty helping of music and a frosty glass (or three) of beer. This year’s Art Outside kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, September 7, at the Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-241-2337). Don’t miss the “Back to Eden” Fashion Show, presented at 7 p.m. by the eco-chic Boutique Chartreuse. Art Outside continues at the Bottleworks on Saturday, September 8, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Catch sets by great local bands (including Team Tomato at 7:30 p.m. Saturday) and, of course, indulge your art-lust by viewing (and perhaps even buying!) pieces by such talented artists as Eric Woods, Carmelita Nuñez, Jane Linders (whose work is pictured) and William LaChance. Admission is free both days; visit www.schlafly.com/artoutside.shtml for a complete list of artists and entertainers.
