Girls with Guitars

Aug 14, 2014 at 4:00 am
Arne Johnson and Shane King's 2007 documentary Girls Rock! chronicles the experiences of four girls attending the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls in Portland, Oregon. The camp is a safe environment for girls ages eight to eighteen, where they learn the time-honored craft of rocking out from seasoned pros like Carrie Brownstein. Each of the four girls has their own issues to deal with and musical interests, but the breakout star is clearly Amelia, the eight-year-old powerhouse who writes songs about her dog, Pipi. Girls Rock! screens at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Stage at KDHX (3524 Washington Avenue; 314-664-3955 or www.kdhx.org). Admission is free.
