The water in and around this city has received a lot of attention lately: Our tap won the best-tasting-water prize, and the Missouri River is so yummy that it’s being bottled, thanks to PepsiCo. In order to further celebrate the agua of the metropolitan area, head out to the Greenway Network’s Race for the Rivers Festival, happening from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, at the riverside Frontier Park (South Main Street and First Capitol Drive, St. Charles). This fest is held in conjunction with the Race for the Rivers, a two-day canoe/kayak event going on this weekend, and the Clean Water Challenge, a shorter race happening just on Saturday. While attending the festival, you can keep tabs on who’s winning the Race for the Rivers as the paddlers arrive on shore from Washington, Missouri; their ultimate stopping point is at the confluence on Sunday, August 26 -- that’s a 65-mile journey! You can also listen to live music, make some river-inspired art (maybe with watercolors?) and learn about how clean our water is. For more information about the free paddling party, visit
