Gregory Maguire

When: Thu., Nov. 9, 7 p.m. 2017
Price: free admission
The author of Wicked and several other bestsellers, Gregory Maguire is back with a new book, Hiddensee. The cover proclaims it "A Tale of the Once and Future Nutcracker," giving you a broad idea of the story. But it's not so much an origin story for the brave Nutcracker soldier from the popular ballet as it is the tale of a young German boy named Dirk who grows up unloved in the Black Forest. Striking out on his own, the young man wanders the country, trying to find the place where he fits in. Dirk has a talent for woodcarving and making toys, but not for understanding or getting along with other people. What will become of Dirk Drosselmeier, frustrated searcher for meaning? Maguire discusses and signs his new book tonight at 7 p.m. at St. Louis County Library Headquarters (1640 South Lindbergh Boulevard, Frontenac; Admission is free and books will be sold at the event by the Novel Neighbor.
