Grip It and Sip It

For every sticky-hot, thirst-inducing St. Louis summer day, there are a dozen ways to quench that thirst. You can purchase a 75-cent cup of lemonade from the wee ankle-biter down the street. You can drink from your neighbor's garden hose. Or, most appealing, you can partake of Summer Sippin' at Big Sky Café (47 South Old Orchard Avenue, Webster Groves). "Mistress of Wine" Joyce DeNeal brings her usual passion and playfulness to this event, which features three delightful wines: the crisp Don Rodolfo Torrentes 2008, the luscious Chateau Graville Lacoste 2007 and a ridiculously yummy strawberry-basil white sangria. Big Sky sous chef Christine Cradock is pairing the wines with dishes that scream summer — think chilled soup, light seafood and ice cream-topped dessert. All in all, Summer Sippin' is as refreshing as a trip down the Slip 'n Slide, and you won't wind up with grass burns. The food-and-wine pairing costs $37 per person (not including tax and tip), and the dinner lasts from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, call 314-962-5757 or visit www.allgreatrestaurants.com.
