Hairy Halloween

Not so secret 'stache

A line has been drawn in the facial hair. The American Mustache Institute, the St. Louis-based think tank devoted to mustache research and promotion, has declared its support of the mustache, no diggity. But the group's bylaws state that "they do not support chin coverage (i.e., beards, goatees)" because it represents "spousal compromise." Those of us in the Bearded Laddies would argue that point strongly: We ain't married, for starters, and secondly, jealous much, you dirt-stached half-steppers? A beard is a thing of beauty forever. Despite our political/follicular differences, we support the growth of the AMI, and we support the 'Stache Bash 2008, the AMI's fundraiser and party. From 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Lumière Casino (999 North Second Street;, the lip-whiskered will keep it hairy with live music, the fire-dancing group Sturdygurlesque, give-aways and free mustaches at the door, in case you're not already blessed. Admission is $22 to $25, and that includes beer and wine at the bar. Oh, and the winner of the first Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year will be announced. That man had a mustache for the ages. Woulda looked better with a beard, but still.
