Hawk's on the Road

Tony Hawk is to skateboarding as Chuck Berry is to guitars: Neither invented their instrument of choice, but their personal genius and innovations changed the way everybody else thought about skateboards and guitars. And, surprisingly, both of them are still out there grinding away. Hawk is currently on a skate-park tour of the Midwest with the Birdhouse Skateboards team, and he's scheduled to drop in at 4 p.m. today at Plan Nine Skatepark (5555 St. Louis Mills Boulevard, Hazelwood; 314-227-5294 or www.plan-nine.net) for a full demo and skate session. Willy Santos, Kevin Staab, Clint Walker and Shaun Gregoire should be with him, and it only costs $15 if you want to skate with the Birdhouse team (you'll also need to sign the liability waiver if you haven't already). It's free to spectate, so bring your little brother and blow his mind.
