Help Women, Hear Women 

So you schwiped this copy of the RFT and strolled to Starbucks. Maybe you read Letters, Unreal and the News Real. Then you flipped to Night & Day and landed on this innocent item. Hate to break it to your carefree self, but by the time you casually finish this blurb, someone in America has been sexually assaulted (according to stats found at, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network Web site). Wait, it gets worse — since you opened this paper, that statistic bumps up to approximately eight (that is, if you've made it through all those pages in a speedy twenty minutes). Now take a second and look around. One in six of the women you see — hell, one in six of the women you already know — has been assaulted in her lifetime. Have a sister, a girlfriend, a mother? Well, maybe you ought to support V-Day, a worldwide movement to halt acts of violence against women.
