'Tis the season for Mardi Gras madness, with all of the over-served nights and hungover days. You can tell when people have tied one on the evening before not only by their untidy appearance — usually complemented by the broken beads still tangled in their hair — but also by the red stains upon their lips and teeth. Time was, that temporary tattoo was the mark of a hurricane (or five), the most beloved Mardi Gras beverage of all. But in this modern era, this sweet jungle juice has been replaced, at least for one evening, by the lip-staining nectar of the grapes. To participate in this Mardi Gras Wine Taste, held at the Mad Art Gallery (2727 South 12th Street; 314-771-8230) and the Lemp Grand Hall (1817 Cherokee Street), show up at the former with $30 in hand. Then, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., you'll have the opportunity to drink both local and national wines and try four food samples (additional tastes cost $1) at each venue — no worries, trolleys transport you betwixt the two.
