Hit the Lights

Starlight, searchlights and you

Every city, municipality and hamlet in the country offers some sort of free outdoor concert series once summer starts. Why, if you're willing to do a little homework, you can attend a free concert almost every night of the week. Ah, but how many of them offer them with — wait for it — a massive searchlight? The University City Starlight Concert Series has that edge, at least on opening night. At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 9, Kim Massie provides the soundtrack for your summer lovin' in Heman Park (7210 Olive Boulevard, University City; 314-505-8612 or www.ucitymo.org), and at dusk the University City City Hall searchlight flares into luminous being for 45 minutes. Admission is, as mentioned, free. A different concert takes place at the same time every Monday through July 28, but without the searchlight.
