Hot Summer

The former East Germany was a complex nation marked by its own peculiarities and shortcomings, but youthful imperatives are pretty much the same the world over. Kids are going to be kids, regardless of locale and culture. The Webster Film Series presents Hot Summer, a 1968 East German musical that depicts a group of girls who want to take their vacation together on the Baltic coast. The problem is, a bunch of loudmouth boys have the same plans. The frauleins would prefer the boys stay well away; conflict ensues — as does, eventually and not surprisingly, attraction and courtship.
