Nearly 1,000 people marched through St. Louis' Shaw neighborhood on Sunday, October 8 -- one of the biggest protests in the region since former police officer Jason Stockley was found not guilty of murder more than three weeks ago, setting off weeks of demonstrations.
Sunday's march focused on Vonderrit Myers, who had been killed exactly three years before in Shaw by an officer moonlighting for a private security firm. Unlike in the Stockley case, Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce had declined to charge the officer.
The protest was entirely peaceful, with numerous babies and dogs. Perhaps not coincidentally, there were no officers on the scene in riot gear -- and the cops who were there seemed to assist the march in closing streets to traffic.
