9 p.m. Saturday, May 22. Old Rock House, 1200 South Seventh Street.

Simply put, Hum was one of the most underappreciated bands of the '90s. Sure, the Champaign, Illinois, band's "Stars" video landed on Beavis and Butt-head, and the song itself experienced a resurgence in popularity in 2007 due to its placement in a Cadillac ad. But the space-rock quartet was so much more than that (admittedly impressive) five-minute slab of guitar rock. Having never really gotten its due originally, Hum has remained mostly broken up since 2000, reuniting every few years for some one-off shows — we should make it clear that this is something we are perfectly OK with. Choosing to skip a Hum performance is one of the two biggest mistakes you could ever make. The second? Choosing to attend a Hum performance but forgetting your earplugs at home. You've been warned.
