January is a tough time of year. The holiday parties are over, the twinkly lights have come down and everything seems drab and dreary. Fight off the winter doldrums with some good old-fashioned fun and take a turn or twelve around the Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park (400 Jefferson Drive; 314-361-0613 or www.steinbergskatingrink.com). The Midwest's largest ice-skating rink has open skate all day, so you can channel your inner Apolo Ohno until you drop, then warm up by the outside bonfire or stop by the Snowflake Café for a beer or wine. The rink is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday though Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday through March 6. Admission is $6, and skate rentals are available for $4; only cash is accepted.
