The first annual Iron Florist competition, part of the annual Art In Bloom event, was held at the St. Louis Art Museum March 7. The event consisted of three teams, a celebrity & florist paired together in each, that had 40 minutes to put together a floral arrangement interpreting a mystery painting in the Museum’s collection, using the materials given. The three celebrities that took part were Heidi Glaus (of KSDK), Laura Kathleen (of Project Runway), and Aisha Sultan (of STLPD). The three florists that took part were Daniel Whitehurst (of LaSalle Wholesale Florist), Rhonda Lynn-Moeckel (of Wildflowers), and Michael Schrader (floral director for Schnucks). Heidi & Daniel were awarded first place, second runners up were Aisha & Michael, and third runners up were Laura & Rhonda. The judges were Tony Montano (of Buds), Trisha Haislar (of Elegant Celebrations), and Melissa Wolfe (Museum’s curator of American Art). The event was hosted by Keith McDonnell & Dean Riebeling, from Botanicals Design Studio.
