Jersey Girls and Boys

Welcome to the fair

The Jersey County Fair — which runs from Saturday, July 5, through Sunday, July 13 — is pretty special because it offers fun for all ages. But what makes this fair stand out even more is the fact that it's been around since 1869! That's 139 years! Be a part of history, and celebrate tradition as you check out the livestock shows, chow down on festival food, catch one of several tractor pulls and hop aboard carnival rides (they're set in motion on Tuesday). In addition to these long-established goings on, race cars will be on display, and Kachunga will wrestle an alligator daily beginning Wednesday! Then for those seeking a more genteel time, there's the talent competition on Tuesday and the crowning of the Miss Jersey County Queen on Wednesday (both contests cost $2 to $6 to attend). Plus, you've got your harness races on Saturday and Sunday (July 5 and 6). Whew! For more details about all of the happenings on the Jersey County Fair schedule, including the ever-popular demolition derby, call 618-498-3422 or visit www.jerseycountyfair.com. The nine-day down-home party takes place on the Jersey County Fairgrounds (off Route 67, north of Jerseyville, Illinois); admission costs $2, carnival-ride armbands cost $17, and there are other additional charges for special events.
