Maybe it's all of the red-light/security/laptop/cell-phone cameras out there in the Information Age, but we're starting to feel like we're being watched wherever we go. No doubt that feeling will intensify, but in a much less creepy, much less robotic way, during October at the Butterfly House in Faust Park (15193 Olive Boulevard, Chesterfield; 636-530-0076 or www.butterflyhouse.org). The tropical conservatory hosts October Owls and Orchids, a special event featuring lots of lovely orchids and more than 1,000 owl butterflies -- the ones with wing coloring that resembles owl eyes -- fluttering around the space. Because these delicate beauties are night owls (see what we did there?), the Butterfly House keeps late hours on Tuesdays this month to allow them to really show off their stuff. From 4:30 to 7 p.m., have a look at these avian ocular masqueraders as they flit and fly, and visit with special guests, too: the Saint Louis Zoo presents "Nocturnal Animals" October 1 and 8, and the World Bird Sanctuary presents "Owls" October 15, 22 and 29. Admission for these Tuesday evening events is $6, and regular Butterfly House admission is $4 to $6.
Tuesdays. Starts: Oct. 1. Continues through Oct. 31, 2013
