(Keep Feeling) Innovation

With doctors always recommending we add more fiber to our diets, the fiber art exhibits that are part of the biennial Innovations in Textiles city-wide extravaganza should really do a body good. Nearly twenty galleries participate in the fabric fun, and Friday, September 14, serves as opening night for many of the exhibitions, including those at Art Saint Louis (917 Locust Street), the Gallery at the Regional Arts Commission (6128 Delmar Boulevard) and Craft Alliance (6640 Delmar Boulevard). Other venues, like the Gallery at Chesterfield Arts (444 Chesterfield Center), previously hosted receptions, but the artworks remain up for the viewing (Night & Day has highlighted some of these shows in past weeks). The pieces at each gallery are as varied as the clothes people wear, and while the exhibits do include beautiful basketry and quilting, they also push boundaries with fashions, abstract string works and more. You are free to check out the shows at your leisure, or you can wait until the Gallery Bus Tour, which departs from the Sheldon (3648 Washington Boulevard) at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 6 ($35). Plus, you can also keep busy with a variety of talks, workshops and other goings-on. For more information about Innovations in Textiles and its related events, visit www.craftalliance.org.
