Kiener Plaza Opening Celebration

The venerable Kiener Plaza (Seventh and Market streets; has had a little cosmetic work done in the past year, and it can now serve as a small concert venue, a playground and a splash pad. One familiar "innovation" is the return of your old pal the Runner statue, which is back in its proper home. The new and improved Kiener Plaza opens with a two-day celebration, just in time for summer. At noon on Friday, May 19, there is a ribbon cutting and a performance by the Carr Lane VPA Middle School drum line. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 20, there will be a series of concerts by Acoustik Element, Borderline and Hobo Cane. Fredbird and his team will be present, and food trucks will be parked nearby. Admission to both days is free.
