A while back, Night & Day included a preview of the opening of Hurricane on the Bayou, an IMAX movie now showing at the Saint Louis Science Center (5050 Oakland Avenue). When you watch this film, you get a sense of how Louisiana's land looked before, during and after Hurricane Katrina, but it's still difficult to comprehend the incredible devastation. Many of the people who know that destruction far too well have set up their lives here in St. Louis with the help of agencies like the St. Patrick Center — and they still need our help. So take your compassionate self to the Science Center at 6 p.m. tonight — it's closer than driving down south — for the Bash on the Bayou. This Mardi Gras-themed party features screenings of Hurricane, music from the Zydeco Crawdaddys and sixteen-year-old fiddler Amanda Shaw, spicy Cajun food (from the Gumbo Shop, JackSons' and other spots) — all the ingredients necessary for a proper Louisiana fete!
