Lady Gaga

8 p.m. Saturday, July 17. Scottrade Center, 1401 Clark Avenue.

At this point, what more can be said about Lady Gaga, who's arguably the biggest global pop star since Madonna? Like the Material Girl, she's redefined the meaning of "socially appropriate" — whether in the realm of fashion, live performance or public behavior. Still, her taboo busting doesn't have a whiff of eau de attention whore, unlike most celebrities in the Age of TMZ. Although she's a fearless dresser — whether it's lingerie under a Yankees jersey at a baseball game or a black veil to her sister's high school graduation — and a confident interviewee, Gaga's vulnerability always hovers near the surface. And therein lies her appeal: The love she has for her fans (her "little monsters") is sincere and all-encompassing — perhaps because if she wasn't Lady Gaga, she too would be just another misfit soul looking for an icon.
