Mystery author Ridley Pearson knows his readers well. They want suspense and action that doesn't sacrifice plot or the quality of the writing. Enter The Risk Agent, Pearson's newest novel: It's the first book in a series, focusing on the Rutherford Risk law firm during negotiations to free a hostage held captive in Shanghai. Seeing as how the firm is seriously unequipped to handle this on its own, help is outsourced. Jon Knox and Grace Chu, a civilian and an accountant with military training, respectively, are brought in to help save the day. What follows are beautiful depictions of China and a lot of action. Pearson drops by the Saint Louis County Library Headquarters (1640 South Lindbergh Boulevard) from 7 to 8 p.m. to discuss and sign copies of The Risk Agent.
