Local Motion: Riddle of Steel

11 p.m. Thursday, January 25. Mangia Italiano (3145 South Grand Boulevard).

Things are changing slightly for Riddle of Steel as the trio records its third album. For starters, this is the first time it's had the luxury of recording with the same lineup for two discs in a row — which bassist/vocalist Jimmy Vavak says "makes it a lot easier. The songs come quicker, we know [drummer] Rob [Smith's] strengths, so we know what he's going to kick ass on more." As a result, the band plans to have finished songs in hand when it eventually hits the studio (which it likely will do with longtime collaborator Carl Amburn). Expect to hear a bunch of new Riddle songs at this show, which is technically free but is also doubling as a quasi-fundraiser to help the band when it tours Europe in February.
