Love and Other Follies

Sally and Matt have some mighty external forces pressing against them, but it's their internal truth that carries the day. They're in love. Sally is from a Protestant, wealthy, bigoted family in rural Missouri; Matt is Jewish and from the big city, St. Louis. Lanford Wilson's play Talley's Folly charts the unlikely couple's courtship, and does so compellingly enough that it was nominated for several Tonys -- it ended up winning a Pulitzer Prize in 1980. Wilson was a Missouri native, so he knew something about our state's socio-cultural thickets. The New Jewish Theatre brings the play back home with performances at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (December 6 through 23) in the Wool Studio Theater of the Jewish Community Center's Arts & Education Building (2 Millstone Campus Drive, Creve Coeur, MO; 314-442-3283 or www.newjewishtheatre.org). There are additional 7:30 p.m. shows on the first two Sundays of the run (December 9 and 16). Tickets are $35 to $39.
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Dec. 6. Continues through Dec. 23, 2012
