There's the official city of tourism: the Arch, the Wainwright Building, the Central West End, Forest Park's architectural gems. Then there are the interstitial zones, the weird not-quite-places; these are the ghosted precincts that make St. Louis such an interesting, elusive entity. Videographer/photographer Mariam Ghani calls them border zones, and she explores them in Currents 110: Mariam Ghani/The City & the City. Ghani fuses a fictional narrative to the real histories of depleted or vanished nooks of our city such as Kinloch and the Cotton Belt Freight Depot. She prompts us to register the St. Louis only half-concealed by population shift and the passage of time.
