Meals on Two Wheels

Fall is arguably the only tolerable season in St. Louis. The brutal winters and hellish summers seem never-ending and spring occurs for an approximate eight nonconsecutive days each year. With Thanksgiving approaching it only makes sense to embrace a feeling of gratitude and, perhaps, spread that feeling around. Though the turkey feast is still a few weeks off, Cranksgiving is upon us. BicycleWORKS' annual food drive is the perfect pairing of a bike ride over the satisfying crunch of leaves, and the satisfaction of helping those in need. Riders depart from Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood) at 10 a.m. with a choice of three routes: 5-, 10-, or 25-mile courses. Each course features participating grocery stores where cyclists will purchase non-perishable food items ($10 to $20 is the recommended amount, but you can buy as much as you can lug) and then deliver them to Food Outreach. Cash donations are also welcome, and if you don't ride but want to support the cause, you can buy a Cranksgiving T-shirt -- all the money from shirt sales goes to Food Outreach. For more information on the ride, call 314-827-6640 or visit www.bworks.org.
