Let's face it: 45 years is a long time to do anything, and it's a really long time to do some things in particular, like eating a snow cone (so melty), jumping rope (so tiring) and running an independent bookstore (so challenging). However, despite the odds, our very own Left Bank Books (399 North Euclid Avenue; 314-367-6731 or www.left-bank.com) has kept the dream alive for 45 amazing, literary, inspirational years, and to mark the occasion, the store invites you to its 45th Birthday Celebration: Writers Under Glass event. During this party, three authors -- namely, Ann Leckie (pictured), Kevin Killeen and Mark Tiedemann -- will live-write in the corner store's windows while you watch and provide story suggestions. Whether you submit plot points for the collaborative piece or just your favorite word, you will be entered into a raffle, plus, there will be cake! The fun starts at 5 p.m.; your presence is present enough.
