More Moon, Less Hammy

Lo, humankind has spent many a night staring up at that big ol' hunk of cheese in the sky. We've pored over every detail of the moon, wondering about its dark side, dreaming of making it a vacation spot and imagining what it might taste like. Gregg Maryniak thinks about our crater-y neighbor, too, and probably a lot more than most -- especially on a day like today, which happens to be the 44th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The secretary of the X Prize Foundation, Maryniak believes the moon's resources can help us out here on Earth, and he shares how during his free talk "Can the Moon Save the Earth?" held at 2 p.m. at the Saint Louis Science Center's James S. McDonnell Planetarium (5050 Oakland Avenue; 314-289-4400 or www.slsc.org). In addition to the discussion, the St. Louis Rocketry Association helps folks build little rockets, starting at 10 a.m., and these knowledgeable rocketeers will even help you launch your rocket on a mini-mission into the sky later in the day, if weather, and your imagination, permits.
