Music at the Intersection Brought Good Vibes to St. Louis [PHOTOS]

The second annual Music at the Intersection launched in the Grand Center Arts District on September 10 to 11, 2022. Sponsored by the Kranzberg Arts Foundation, the festival is a multifaceted celebration of St. Louis’s deep musical, cultural and artistic heritage. Not only does it spotlight the city’s creative affinity to its sister cities along the Mississippi River, but also its impact on the last century of American popular music.

The following photos chronicle the event kickoff on Saturday. Both national and local musicians from blues, jazz, soul, R&B, hip-hop and rock formed an electrifying well of inspiration for festival-goers. The spirit of jubilance and spontaneity coursed throughout the district, more pervasive than the technical difficulties that haunted some of the event stages.

Tech woes at the Wash Ave Stage did not deter acts like Saint Boogie Brass Band, who threw down a white-hot, impromptu performance directly in the midst of an elated crowd on Josephine Baker Boulevard. Also undaunted were St. Louis’s own Foxing, powering through their set of wiry indie rock with reliably explosive aplomb. And BJ the Chicago Kid remedied momentary glitches during his set at the Field Stage with swooning acapella versions of R&B classics.

Throw in the rich diversity of the Mural Walk Market and the bewitching aromas radiating from hot food truck grills, Music at the Intersection gave people plenty to sing, dance and dine about over the weekend. — Dmitri Jackson
