Neal Thompson

In Reckoning: Vietnam and America’s Cold War Experience 1945-1991, Neal F. Thompson documents the long history of the Vietnamese War. Thompson entered the United States Army as a warrant officer candidate in August 1970, two months after graduation from high school. Completed Flight School and was appointed warrant officer in November of 1971. He served as a helicopter pilot in the Republic of Vietnam (one year) and at Fort Sill, Oklahoma (two years). Neal also served in the Illinois Army National Guard as a UH-1H Huey instructor pilot and a UH-60A Blackhawk pilot with Co. “B” 1/106th Aviation Regiment, located at Midway Airport, Chicago, Illinois.
