Nickel Creek

Tuesday, October 25; the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard)

Bluegrass music may not be for everyone, but Nickel Creek will make you think otherwise. The trio, which is comprised of Kentucky-born Chris Thile and siblings Sean and Sara Watkins, makes the genre accessible to even the most cynical of ears. Its charismatic and deeply personal approach to lyric-writing -- along with a down-home, friendly stage presence -- makes listeners feel like they've had a very intense conversation with friends. In fact, Nickel Creek's powerful performances impressed modern bluegrass queen Alison Krauss so much that she produced their 2000 self-titled debut album. Along with songs from the band's new album, Why Should the Fire Die?, fans should expect to hear old favorites along with a few even more heartbroken tunes this night.

Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25; call 314-726-6161 for more information.
