Let’s face it: Cancer sucks. It’s a terribly isolating diagnosis, no matter who is with you when the news is delivered. You don’t feel well, the future is uncertain, and you couldn’t be more scared. And while all of these feelings are, of course, perfectly normal and even expected, you would prefer not to walk the path of your illness dragged down by the sadness. One way to fight and feel better (and for your family and friends to feel a little less helpless) is to participate in one of the Light the Night Walks. Both happen tonight; one is at Forest Park and the other takes place at St. Peters’ City Centre Park (5700 Mexico Road). These events not only raise money for the Gateway Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, but they also raise the spirits of survivors and supporters. And if a walker raises $25 or more, he or she carries a glowing balloon throughout the walk to truly light up the night. For more information on how to participate, call 314-878-0780 or visit www.lightthenight.org; registration begins at 5:30 p.m.
