On the Road

Get rolling!

Your one and only new year's resolution was to take it easy in 2008, and we've got to hand it to you — you look pretty relaxed over there. But even with your stellar goal fulfillment so far, you're starting to get antsy, aren't you? Chilling in your recliner is fun and all, but you know you're going to need something more substantial to keep you cool for the next 300-plus days. Maybe you should just leave everything behind — and we mean everything — and hit the open road. But that fourteen-year-old car of yours won't even make it to the Missouri border! And you kind of enjoy the niceties of civilization. Wait a minute...we have just the thing: an RV! And as luck would have it, there's going to be a whole slew of 'em at the St. Louis RV Vacation & Travel Show, happening this weekend at America's Center (Washington Avenue and North Eighth Street; 314-355-1236 or www.stlrv.com). The show costs $3.50 to $8 to get in, and it runs from noon to 10 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (January 10 through 13), which should give you just enough time to look over the nearly 500 RVs in the place — and plan your getaway. The weekend also features musical acts on Friday and Saturday nights as well as the Honky-Tonk Hall of Fame & Rock & Roll Roadshow, complete with all kinds of memorabilia from the likes of Elvis and others (his saddle is pictured). Now, that's a dude who really knew how to disappear.
