Our Cup Runneth on Two Wheels

Sometimes St. Louis feels less like a city and more like a collection of neighborhoods -- but what's wrong with that? We're rich with interesting and historic neighborhoods populated by proud defenders of their little bit of the tapestry that makes up St. Louis. The Staenberg Group Gateway Cup gives four of those enclaves the opportunity to show off every year. Four days (Friday, August 9, through Monday, September 1) of professional and amateur bicycle races are spread throughout the city proper, with the Tour de Lafayette first on the schedule. This criterium around Lafayette Square starts at 3 p.m. with the junior-division cyclists, while the pro classes start at 8:15 p.m. as night falls over the city (no worries, the course is lighted). The race then moves to Francis Park, the Hill and Benton Park. Admission is free for spectators, but you'll need money for food and drink during the day.
