Park in Overdrive

This weekend, the Gateway to the West will send compasses spinning in all directions as the Arch grounds transform into a gateway to the diverse wonders of our country's national, state and local parks. Masterminded by the National Park Service, ParkPalooza brings St. Louis a host of interactive public-land pursuits, including simulated rock climbs, hands-on archeology digs, up-close wildlife encounters and a unique Mississippi River Trail walk and bike course. As if that weren't enough, visitors can also enjoy a giant river aquarium, interact with costumed nineteenth-century residents and swing to New Orleans Jazz performances. ParkPalooza runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (September 12 and 13) on the Gateway Arch grounds at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (707 North First Street). Admission is free, and plenty of food and beverages will be on-site for purchase. For more information visit
