Every year, you tell yourself this is the season you’ll actually go to the symphony. But do you ever follow through? No. But tonight’s your chance to fulfill this pledge you’ve made, as the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra comes to you. Well, it meets you halfway, let’s say. At 7 p.m., David Robertson and the SLSO will be arrayed on Art Hill in Forest Park (314-533-2500 or www.slso.org), awaiting your arrival. A full performance, featuring Rimsky-Korsakov’s polonaise from Christmas Eve, Rodgers’ The Sound of Music: A Symphonic Picture and Falla’s “Ritual Fire Dance” from El amor brujo (as well as several other pieces), is scheduled, and you’ll pay nothing for the pleasure -- it’s an absolutely free evening. Now come on: The symphony’s giving this one away, so you have no excuse not to go, unless you’re just plain rude.
