Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Homer discovers that his head is a logo for Mr. Sparkle, a Japanese soap, and he watches a video for the soap featuring a two-headed cow and underwater babes who turn into sumo wrestlers? Picture that commercial set to a blistering punk-rock soundtrack, and you have Peelander-Z. The colorful cartoon trio is so weirdly Japanese, one almost has to wonder if it's pulling a prank on gullible gaijin. But whether it's a joke or not doesn't really matter, because the whole mad show is so much fun. For instance, the new tour is called the Peelander Fun Club Tour, and the band wants its fans to bring their own fans -- paper fans, that is -- to go along with their own uchiwa fan routine. So let's review: psychedelic-cotton-candy Japanese punk, paper fans and hilarity. As Mr. Sparkle says: "Join me or die. Can you do any less?"
