The new group show at the Philip Slein Gallery (1319 Washington Avenue; 314-621-4634 or, Post-Modern Peep Show, has a racy name, but the pleasures on display are of the metaphysical variety, not the carnal. The three printmakers whose works are featured -- Michael Krueger, Lisa Bulawsky and Don Colley -- offer glimpses into other worlds rather than boudoir fantasies. Krueger creates images reminiscent of the mythological Wild West, a stark landscape of lone figures standing against this barren world. Bulawsky’s prints are of a realm she calls “Shiftland”; it’s a mostly featureless world tinted in taupe and beige, with tiny human figures dwarfed by massive poppies and floating mouth-like shapes. Colley refers to his world as “Coulrotopia,” a land of magnificent vistas and melancholy individuals. Post-Modern Peep Show opens with a free public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 14, and the show remains up through Saturday, October 6. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 14. Continues through Oct. 6, 2007
