During the last few years, bands such as Hot Water Music, Small Brown Bike and Lifetime have re-emerged to play highly anticipated shows. But it isn't fair to upstate New York's Polar Bear Club to say that there has been some sort of void in post-hardcore, hook-laden punk rock. Since 2008's Sometimes Things Just Disappear, the quintet has carved out precise (but melodic) punk-core nuggets complete with glass-gargling howls and introspective, sing-songy musings. PBC's most recent album, Chasing Hamburg, found the band experimenting with a more rock-based sound, with a touch of guitar-twinkling indie thrown in for good measure.
