Protest Puts a Chill on Loop Ice Carnival

The annual Delmar Loop Ice Carnival warms the hearts of many attendees, but this year, things were a bit chillier than usual. On January 17, 2015, one day after the Snow Ball kicked off the weekend, demonstrators visited the Loop on one of its busiest days for a #BlackLivesMatter protest, stemming from a Ferguson police officer's controversial fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in August 2014. Demonstrators of all ages and backgrounds marched down Delmar Boulevard, invoking Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and blocking traffic at Delmar and Skinker. Some onlookers were wary, while others joined the march.
