Psychedelic Comic Cakes

Daniel Drake works by day as a short order cook specializing in pancake artistry. By night, he's the mastermind behind the Psychedelic Psychonaut saga, an epic battle of weird good versus awful evil. Fans of the band the Psychedelic Psychonauts know that Drake has been writing a choose-your-own adventure story in the band's flyers since 2012. Now the tale of the honorable knight Gorgozord and the vile Zax is collected in Drake's first graphic novel, Gorgozord Vol. 1. The book goes on sale at 2 p.m. today at the mighty Star Clipper (6392 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-725-9110 or www.starclipper.com). Following the book launch party, Drake transforms into his heroic alter ego Dr. Dan the Pancake Man and demonstrates how he makes them crazy cakes. Bands the Future Transhumans and the Psychedelic Psychonauts play from 5 to 6 p.m. to round out the day. Admission is free, but bring your wallet to buy a book.
