Psycho's Royal Throne

Tonight instead of checking out a book from the library, how about checking in to the Bates Motel? In recognition of bath safety month, the Central branch of the St. Louis Public Library (1301 Olive Street; 314-241-2288 or www.slpl.org) kicks off its Rinse & Repeat Film Series with Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic Psycho, which boasts the single most infamous scene in film history -- and it all takes place in a bathroom. Psycho broke many taboos: There's the opening shot featuring a black bra'd Janet Leigh sharing her hotel bed, the notorious shower shock piece, and also the first appearance of a toilet in an American film. Hitchcock's groundbreaking bathroom action is screened at 6:30 p.m. tonight, and admission is free.
