In box number one, there's a generic gift card to a store of your choice. In box number two, you'll find a thoughtful, beautifully handmade treasure from a loved one. Which present would you choose? That second one really epitomizes the spirit of the season, doesn't it? And do-it-yourself gifts often turn out the best, especially if you have help. To make one of those presents that will be cherished for all time by someone you love, head to Yucandu Art Studio (20 Allen Avenue, Suite 110, Webster Groves; 314-963-4400). This new creation station offers arts and crafts for all ages, but several Friday nights are reserved for adults only. On Friday, December 7, the just-in-time-for-the-holidays project is a family portrait on canvas floor cloth. From 6 to 9 p.m., you'll paint the background of your piece, and then on Saturday, December 8, your family will help you with the portrait part. The workshop costs $50, and you can register by visiting www.yucandu.com, where you'll also find information about other classes offered.
